Most bad desert safari experiences come from the same few things: bus pickups, crowded budget camps, cold food on plastic plates, and pressure to pay for extras at the camp. Use this checklist before you book with anyone, including us.
The 7-point checklist
- Licensed operator: ask for the DED or DTCM licence number (ours: Lic No 4418214)
- 4x4 Land Cruiser pickup from your hotel, not a bus from a mall
- Written inclusions: dinner, drinks, shows, camel, sandboarding
- Real, recent reviews that name guides
- A clear private-car price (one price for 1-6)
- Add-on prices listed before you go
- Pay 20% online via WhatsApp after booking to confirm, and the balance on pickup
Why some ads say AED 25-69
Those prices usually mean self-drive or bus pickup and a mass camp, with the money made back on extras at the camp. They can be fine if you know what you're getting. If you want a better experience, compare the full inclusions.
Questions to ask before you pay
- What vehicle picks me up, and from where?
- How long is the dune bashing?
- Is dinner a buffet, and are drinks included?
- What's extra at the camp, and how much?
- What's your cancellation policy?
How we answer them
Land Cruiser from your door. 25-30 minutes of dune bashing shared, 40-45 minutes private. BBQ or 5-star buffet with unlimited soft drinks. Extras (quads, table shisha) are priced upfront. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup.
Are Dubai desert safaris a tourist trap?
The cheapest ones can be. With a licensed operator, a good camp and clear inclusions, it's one of the best things to do in Dubai.
How do I check a company's licence?
Ask for the DED licence number and check reviews that mention the guides by name.
