Why the sand is red
Lahbab's sand is rich in iron oxide, which gives it the deep red-orange colour that glows at sunset. The dunes here are also taller and steeper than the pale dunes nearer the city, which is why most dune bashing and buggy tours run here.
Getting there
Take the Dubai-Hatta Road (E44) east past the Al Awir junction. The meeting points and camps are just off the highway, about 45 minutes from Downtown.

An hour before sunset for the colour, or sunrise for empty dunes and softer light.
